Volunteering makes a difference, and is also rewarding and fun! Spending time with children as a Prodigy Project volunteer is a wonderful way to make a difference in those children’s lives. Your involvement will not only improve the chances of success for the children, but you’ll also play a significant role in the strengthening of our community.
It’s fun and easy, too! Just look at the slideshow!!
You will engage in activities such as:
- Reading story books
- Playing word games
- Talking about Black History
- Discussing Education, Responsibility, Respect, and Leadership
- Explaining what it means to be a good man
- Field trips to introduce the boys to corporate and business environments
Volunteering 4-6 hours a month can help change an entire community!
Whether you choose to volunteer in the school, after school, or weekend programs, you’ll make a difference in some children’s lives.
Improving the academic achievement of the program’s children is the primary reason for you to volunteer with The Prodigy Project. We’re targeting those children that, according to just about every academic think-tank and reporting institution, are at most risk: young African American males.
Why should you volunteer?
THE CHILDREN NEED YOUR HELP. They need to see people that look like them with books. They need to see that African American males do enjoy reading and writing. They need to understand that literacy is the key to their future. They need to believe that they can achieve. They need to know that reading and being smart is not “acting white.” They need a counter to the negative influences that they see and experience in their daily lives.
How to apply: To get started, please complete the short and convenient online application. After you complete the online form, a Prodigy Project staff member will contact you. You'll need to:

THE PRODIGY PROJECT participates in MOREHOUSE COLLEGE’S ANNUAL COMMUNITY SERVICE FAIR!!
The event, themed “Renaissance Men That Serve,” was a great opportunity for The Prodigy Project staff to meet the Morehouse students and faculty, and discuss the mission of The Prodigy Project and how the two organizations can work together to address the needs of Atlanta’s boys. The two organizations agreed to partner, and over 30 Morehouse students signed up to volunteer as mentors and readers with for the programs. The Prodigy Project shall conduct weekly orientations on the Morehouse campus.
We want to thank Morehouse College for the opportunity for The Prodigy Project to partner with one of our nation's most prestigious HBCUs. The mission of both organizations is to develop men with high intellect and character, and to also teach the history and culture of black people. We look forward to a long productive partnership.
The Prodigy Project staff is here to help.
